This metamorphosis was caused by the arrival of the Channel Tunnel. The construction project of the century, both in size and in technical achievement, has left an indelible mark on the commune’s territory.
On a 700 hectare site, where six farm buildings once stood, the French Terminal of the Channel Tunnel, the motorway network required to support it and also the Eurotunnel economic development zone, designed to draw in the several million voyagers who pass through Coquelles every year, have risen from the ground.
